Metal Tubing Cutting All metal center columns and tread sleeves start with raw tubing which is cut to exact dimensions. This computer-aided cutting ensures each component is uniform and cut to precise dimensions for perfect sizing.
Skilled Woodworking Each wood platform and tread is constructed of hand glued components. Once dry, the glued pieces are ready for planning and cutting. All wood stairs are still hand-crafted in our factory.
CNC Plasma Cutting Each steel or aluminum tread is presicion cut using state-of-the-art CNC Plasma technology. All specifications are created in CAD, then transferred to the Plasma which cuts the final tread shape out of metal sheets
Press Brake Folding All metal treads are folded using a press brake. This computer-aided equipment ensures the treads are folded to the proper angle and ready for welding.
Component Alignment The tread/riser and sleeve are checked for proper fit and examined for imperfections. At Salter, every aspect of manufacturing is reviewed for quality asurance.
Precision Welding The steel and aluminum tread components are presicion welded by hand which gurantees the final tread is not only strong but also aesthetically pleasing by minimizing poor and unsightly welds.
CNC Wood Router All components of a wood tread are precisely cut from wood stock using CAD and a computer-controlled CNC Wood Router. The treads are now ready for assembly and final finishing.
Finish Application Metal stairs are either finished with a painted primer, powder coating or hot dipped galvanizing process. Here, steel balusters receive a black primer finish.
